2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

The Corvette may be America's sports car, but the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is designed to take on the world. With a 638 hp supercharged V8, lightweight aluminum skeleton (link goes to photo), and carbon fiber galore, the ZR1 is the most sophisticated 'Vette ever built. Chevy claims a 0-60 time of 3.4 seconds, top speed 205 MPH, quarter mile in 11.3 seconds at 131 MPH -- enough to out-gun most European supercars. But what's the ZR1 really like to drive? 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart

Mitsubishi sold the compact Lancer in two performance flavors: Run-of-the-mill (DE, ES and GTS) and run-like-your-butt-was-on-fire (Evolution). Buyers who wanted something in the middle had to go to Subaru for an Impreza WRX. For 2009, Mitsubishi has finally found a middle ground: The Lancer Ralliart, with a 237 horsepower turbocharged engine, all-wheel-drive, and a twin-clutch automatic transmission. Is there fun to be found here? Read on. $27,185 base/as tested, EPA fuel economy estimates 17 MPG city, 25 MPG highway.

2009 Mercedes-Benz SL63

The Mercedes-Benz SL is more than a car -- it's an exclusive two-seat club that caters to folks who have wealth and aren't afraid to flaunt it. The SL has been updated for 2009 with revised styling and a new high-performance AMG model, the 518 horsepower SL63 AMG. So how does the SL63 look from down here in the lower tax brackets? 2009 Cadillac CTS-V

The CTS-V is the high-performance version of Cadillac's CTS sedan, and it's all-new for 2009. The old CTS-V packed a big 400 horsepower V8 and a manual transmission, a lot of hardware for a car its size. But the new CTS-V makes the old one pale: A bigger, supercharged V8 that pours out a whopping 556 hp, plus it's available with an automatic transmission. How does it all come together? Amazingly well, as it turns out -- read on. Price range $60,355 - $68,995 (including destination and $1,300 gas guzzler tax), EPA fuel economy TBD (approx. 13 MPG city, 19 MPG highway).
